Abstract
Summary
A study was made of the effect of salicylate and of a synthetic antihistamine compound, tripelennamine hydrochloride, on necrotizing allergic reactions of the Arthus and “bacterial” types. The Arthus reaction was induced passively in rabbits by quantitative methods. “Bacterial” sensitivity to a streptococcus nucleoprotein fraction and to tuberculin was observed in human subjects. Neither type of reaction appeared to be altered by the administration of salicylate or tripelennamine. However, in the early development of the Arthus phenomenon, salicylate treated animals exhibited less edema at the site of the lesion.
