Abstract
Summary
The rate of absorption of magnesium sulfate was studied in a series of barbitalized dogs each of which had suffered a hemorrhage equal to 3% of its body weight. The control animals absorbed 14% of the magnesium and 13% of the sulfate, whereas the experimental animals absorbed 17% and 16% respectively. The differences were not statistically significant. A fact not sufficiently appreciated is that the intestine is only relatively impermeable to this salt.
