Abstract
Summary
Changes of the alkaline phosphatase activity in serum and of plasma prothrombin time were studied in 13 children with infectious hepatitis. Considerable increases of phosphatase and abnormally short prothrombin times were found transiently during the early part of the disease. The “hyperprothrombinemia” soon was followed by hypoprothrombinemia. The findings are interpreted as an indication of stimulation of the liver cell during the first stages of infectious hepatitis.
