Summary

Studies are presented which indicate that substitution of an alkyl group on the aromatic nitrogen of procaine will markedly reduce or inactivate completely the antisulfonamide action of the local anesthetic. Substitution of an acetyl group in the position mentioned on procaine, as well as butamin, will likewise result in an inactivation of the antisulfonamide property of these compounds.
