Abstract
Summary
Less folic acid was synthesized in vitro by both a sulfonamide-sensitive and by a sulfonamide-resistant strain of Escherichia coli when these organisms were grown in the presence of sulfanilamide than when they were grown in the same medium not containing the drug. The amount of biotin synthesized was not greatly affected by the presence of the drug in the growth medium.
