Pectin solution is a effective hemodiluting agent in patients not in shock. It lowers total plasma protein, hematocrit, hemoglobin, and plasma non-protein-nitrogen. It raises the venous and arterial pressure slightly and the sedimentation rate of the erythrocytes markedly.
