Conclusions
Tantalum implanted in soft tissues is encapsulated by a thin layer of fibrous tissue. On the surface of the bone a similar reaction is observed, and in addition, X-ray reveals an increased density in the underlying bone. The metal is apparently well tolerated by tissue.
