Abstract
Summary
Prolonged fasting in the rabbit favors the absorption and retention of sulfanilamide, producing higher blood levels of the drug and over a longer period of time as compared to normally fed animals. This also favors reduction of acetylation of the drug. An acid producing diet or the administration of drugs favoring a state of acidosis appears to have an effect on the fate of sulfanilamide similar to that of fasting.
