Abstract
Summary
The pooled extra-embryonic fluids of the chick infected with influenza A are very rich in virus. They can be used as an antigen for complement fixation when harvested at least 36 hours after inoculation of influenza A virus, the time for optimal yield depending on the dose of virus used as an inoculum. Furthermore, they show a flocculation phenomenon when mixed with convalescent or suitable immune sera. The allantoic fluid is a better antigen for the serological reactions than is the amniotic fluid.
