Summary
Phosphate buffer extracts of growth hormone were highly active when assayed in terms of anterior pituitary powder. This method of extraction permitted a careful control of pH and gave high yields of hormone. These extracts had less tendency to form precipitates than those prepared with sodium hydroxide. The addition of urea retarded such precipitation.
