Abstract
Conclusions
Under the conditions of the experiment sulphanilamide was again found to inhibit the tuberculous process in guinea pigs infected with human tubercle bacilli. The large doses necessary to obtain such results preclude clinical application. In guinea pigs similarly infected but treated with Prontosil soluble, Prontosil base, the dimethyl derivative of disulphanilamide (Uleron), diacetyl diamino diphenyl sulphone and benzylamino benzene sulphonamide (Septazine) the tuberculous process was not inhibited. The above compounds, including sulphanilamide, exerted no influence upon the course of the tuberculous infection induced in rabbits by the intravenous injection of bovine tubercle bacilli. The renal lesions in the treated and control rabbits showed no differences.
