The rate of cornification of the superficial epidermis of Triturus is markedly variable and probably independent of thyroid control, but the molting of the cornified layers is dependent on the thyroid. Experiments indicate that a change in cutaneous circulatory conditions is probably an essential factor in the molting mechanism.
