Abstract
Summary
(1) Severe acute inflammation in rats (induced by oleyl alcohol) depresses urinary excretion and hepatic levels of ascorbate. (2) Rats with a chronic inflammation (polyarthritis) excrete reduced quantities of both L-ascorbate and D-glucar-ate in their urine. (3) In arthritic animals, blood ascorbate was increased but liver ascorbate levels were subnormal. (4) High daily doses of ascorbic acid failed to moderate the onset and progress of the adjuvant arthritis.
