Abstract
Summary
The α-adrenergic amines, norepinephrine and phentolamine, when added to the nutrient solution of frog gastric mucosa, produce a decrease of the H+ secretory rate of about 20 to 100% for concentrations increasing from 0.1 to about 2.3 mM of either amine in the nutrient solution. Combinations of these amines produced no antagonistic effects, thereby providing no evidence for the existence of α-adrenergic receptors in frog gastric mucosa.
We wish to thank Ms. Linda Childers for technical assistance. We also thank Winthrop Laboratories for providing us with some of the Levophed used in the experiments.
