Abstract
Summary
2-Hexadecanoylamino-4-ni-trophenyl β-D-glucopyranoside was synthesized. This compound structurally resembles glucocerebroside and is a specific substrate for glucocerebrosidase. This specificity offers advantages over other artificial substrates and the compound can readily be used in the detection of enzyme deficiency in extracts of spleens of patients with Gaucher's disease.
