Summary
An assay for determining the minimal number of leukocytes required for transformation (MNLRT) by the EB virus has been devised. Close MNLRT values of 3.14 ± 0.27 log were obtained for the peripheral leukocytes of seven EBV-seronegative persons. Depletion of surface Ig-bearing cells increased the MNLRT value by at least 2.5 log. Applying this assay to the leukocytes of three chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients we obtained the values of 6.5, >6.5, and >6.5 log.
