Abstract
Summary
Radioimmunoassays were used to measure serum levels of LH, FSH, testosterone, androstenedione, progester-one, and 20αdihydroprogesterone in immature (25-26 day) male rats decapitated at various times of the day. Only FSH, testosterone, and androstenedione showed a significant variation with time; the maximal values occurred late in the dark and early in the light period.
We thank the NIAMDD-Rat Pituitary Program for generous supplies of gonadotropins used in the immunoassays, and Dr. Gordon Niswender for anti-ovine LH. This research was supported in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation (BMS 74-16360). H. E. G. was a predoctorate fellow (NIH-HD-00025).
