Abstract
Summary
After intraperitoneal injections of glucagon into adult male rats it was found that hepatic mitochondrial protein as well as cyto-chromes aaz, b, c1, and c were significantly reduced when expressed per gram liver or per 100 g body wt. The concentrations of the cyto-chromes paralleled the loss of mitochondrial protein. However, enzymatic activity of cytochrome oxidase, which is presumably a measure of cytochrome aa3, decreased more than mitochondrial protein indicating that spec-trophotometric assays of cytochrome aa3 may measure an inactive form of this enzyme.
