Abstract
Summary
Liver microsomal preparations of male and female rabbits, chicken and human fortified with added NADPH promote 12α-hydroxylation of 3α, 7α-dihydroxy-5α-cholanic acid, allochenodeoxycholic acid, to form allocholic acid. The rabbit is superior to the chicken and human in formation of greater quantity of product. These data support the hypothesis that the coplanarity of the 5α-sterol nucleus is important for the sterochemical specificity of the 12α-hydroxylase system.
