Summary
Techniques are reported for the catheterization of the rat portal vein. These methods permit drawing of blood samples without pain in unanesthetized animals under near physiological conditions. These procedures can be used for the assessment of the rate of intestinal absorption via the portal vein and/or the infusion of materials into the portal bloodstream.
