Summary
An antimicrobial substance has been purified from normal calf's liver. Activity is directed primarily against gram-negative bacteria, particularly Bordetella bronchiseptica, the test organism used in these studies. Peptides rich in glutamic acid appear to be responsible and probably account for the fact that activity is augmented as the pH is lowered.
