Abstract
Summary
Daily administration of 6-methyl-8-β-ergoline-acetonitrile (MEA) for 9 mo to young nulliparous C3H/HeJ mice or for 30 days to mature multiparous C3H/HeJ mice resulted in a significant reduction in incidence and diminution in number, respectively, of hyperplastic alveolar nodules (HAN). The alkaloid is known to suppress the secretion of pituitary prolactin. The results of this study provide impetus for continued investigation into the utilization of specific hormone suppression in the prophylaxis of mammary tumorigenesis.
