Abstract
Summary
In toxic doses sodium cyanate and thiocyanate produce similar syndromes in mice: tremor, hyper-reactivity and tonic-clonic convulsions. A common pattern of interactions with central nervous system drugs suggests that these anions have similar mechanisms of action. Thiocyanate had highly unpredictable lethal effects, but its conversion to cyanide in vivo cannot account for its toxicity.
