Abstract
Summary
High doses of heparin, EACA, or both failed to prevent fibrinogen levels from rising after the intravenous administration of 15 μg/kg of E. coli endotoxin to rabbits. Apparently, endotoxin stimulates fibrinogen production by a mechanism independent of intravascular clotting, fibrinolysis or fibrin-ogenolysis.
The authors thank Major Robert Kovatch, V. C., for review of the histologic preparations.
