Abstract
Summary
The present study has shown that there is a deficiency in the ability of an adrenergic neurone to take up norepinephrine for a period of time after removing the heart from the guinea pig. An increase in intracellular sodium parallels the decrease in uptake. There is a return toward the normal environment upon continued perfusion. These studies have obvious implications in investigations carried out on the effect of drugs and other perturbations on the uptake of norepinephrine.
