Abstract
Summary
Brain chromatin isolated from morphine-treated rats exhibited a significantly lower capacity to promote RNA synthesis than chromatin from control rats. The effect was not caused by either ribonuclease or an RNA polymerase inhibitor extracted during the isolation of chromatin. Removal of protein from chromatin DNA abolished the effect. The in vitro addition of morphine to brain chromatin from untreated animals produced no effect.
