Abstract
Summary
Adult rats made diabetic with streptozotocin had an increased concentration of brain free glutamate and glycogen but showed no changes in brain free alanine and glycine. These alterations paralleled higher circulating levels of glucose and ketones. Conversely, starved rats accumulated glycine and glutamate in the brain, although glycogen stores were not affected.
