Abstract
Summary
The inhibitory effect of human placenta on plasminogen activation was studied with a method permitting determination of the fibrinolytic activity developed in organ culture. Placenta was found to liberate agents capable of inhibiting the activation of plasminogen by urokinase, as well as fibrinolytic activators released by explants from kidney and aorta. This inhibition may help to explain the well-known decrease of the fibrinolytic activity during pregnancy.
