Summary
Binding studies of chromosomal acidic proteins to DNA and chromatin show that these proteins bind to chromatin as effectively as they bind to DNA. While cytoplasmic proteins compete with these proteins, about 15% of chromosomal acidic proteins cannot be competed out by cytoplasmic proteins in their ability to bind with chromatin.
