Abstract
Summary
A crystalline metabolite of naloxone was isolated from the urine of a cat using column chromatography on Amberlite XAD-2 and countercurrent analysis. Results of infrared and ultraviolet absorption spectra along with elemental analyses established the structure as naloxone-3-ethereal sulfate.
The naloxone and EN 2265 were obtained from Dr. Harold Blumberg of Endo Laboratories, Garden City, NY. Infrared spectra were run by Kevin Switala of the Department of Chemistry, Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. Mrs. Margo Ryan provided valuable technical assistance. The senior author thanks Dr. R. I. H. Wang for his support in making this research possible.
