Abstract
Summary
Some simple changes in the composition of Tyrode's solution, temperature, and resting tension, were added to our method for bioassay of oxytocin by the isolated strip of lactating mouse mammary gland. The increase of sensitivity was the main improvement obtained, thus enabling the estimation of 1 or less μU/ml of oxytocin, in 50% of the assays.
The authors gratefully acknowledge the helpful assistance of Dr. Roberto Yabo, Consultant in Bi–ostatistics of the Pan American Health Organization, in the analysis of the data, and to Mrs. Doris Stingl de Palumbo for her help in the preparation of the manuscript.
We are grateful to Laboratorio Cooper for supplying us with the experimental animals.
