Abstract
Summary
Comparison has been made between single injection and primed infusion methodology as a means of estimating turnover, oxidation, and reduction of lactate in the human. It is concluded that all these indices of lactate metabolism can be measured equally well with either the single injection or the primed infusion technique. The magnitude and fate of the lactate flux as determined in these studies suggest to us that lactate kinetics as measured with 14C–lactate reflect the entire body flux of carbon through pyruvic acid.
