Abstract
Summary
Numerous studies of sedimentation techniques for counting virus particles using electron microscopy have shown an ultimate practical limit of detection of the order of 106 particles/ml. This report described (a) counting experiments using disposable molded nylon centrifuge tubes designed to concentrate and sediment small virus particles onto one microscope specimen grid and (b) a statistically derived method for determining the number of fields and particles that need to be counted for a desired precision.
