Abstract
Summary
Ascorbic acid was compared with aspirin and phenylbutazone for inhibitory action against lysosomal β-glucuronidase, UV erythema, carrageenan paw edema, adjuvant arthritis, and peritonitis-polyarthritis. The vitamin was a very effective inhibitor of β-glucuronidase activity and peritonitis-polyarthritis swelling, but a moderately effective inhibitor of adjuvant arthritis swelling. Ascorbic acid was weakly inhibitory in the carrageenan edema, and not inhibitory against UV erythema.
