Abstract
Summary
A malabsorption syndrome denoted by jejunal lipodystrophy, steatorrhea, and osteomalacia has been produced in adult cotton top marmosets (Saguinus oedipus) fed a high cholesterol, high coconut oil containing diet. The diet included sufficient amounts of all presently known nutritional essentials for this primate. The lipodystrophy was marked by huge collections of neutral fat in the absorptive cells of the jejunal villi. The fat filled cells apparently created an absorptive block which contributed to the development of steatorrhea and osteomalacia.
