Abstract
Summary
Fetal calf serum contains large amounts of a glycoprotein that inhibits the acid precipitation of nucleic acids. The glycoprotein has been purified by gel filtration, acetone precipitation, and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Its protective activity is insensitive to extremes in pH and temperature, but sensitive to proteolytic digestion and low concentration of bivalent metals.
