Abstract
Summary
A carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, DMBA, was found to inactivate the infectivity of herpes simplex virus type 2 to a greater degree than the infectivity of herpes simplex virus type 1. The reaction was concentration and temperature dependent. The noncarcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, anthracene, did not affect the infectivity of either type of herpes simplex virus.
