Abstract
Summary
Five thiophene derivatives and 2-pyrrolecarboxylic acid have marked hypocalcemic activity in rats. In nephrectomized rats, 2-TCA has a greater effect on serum calcium than it has on serum phosphorus. In a tissue culture system, 2-TCA inhibits directly PTH-stimulated transfer of calcium and phosphorus from bone. These effects of 2-TCA are rapid, reversible, and dose-related.
