Abstract
Summary
The effect of malethamer on the excretion of electrolytes was studied in the rat. A single dose of 100 mg/kg p.o. had no effect on urine output of Na, K, and Cl. A diet containing 5% malethamer increased fecal but decreased urinary excretion of Na and K. The plasma Na and K levels of dogs on diets containing 25-200 mg/kg/day remained within normal ranges over a period of 16 months after which only some slight drops took place. The plasma Cl level was not affected by malethamer.
