Abstract
Summary
Post-heparin lipolytic activity (PHLA) was measured in venous blood in the human forearm during the constant infusion of heparin into the brachial artery. PHLA appeared rapidly and then diminished despite the continued administration of heparin, The replenishment of PHLA appears to be rapid in that a second infusion of heparin, 1 hr after the first infusion had ended, led to a further, though reduced release of PHLA. Prior 1-hr infusions of insulin in physiological concentrations did not appear to augment the release of PHLA.
