Abstract
Summary
Periodate oxidation of tuberculin preparations destroys the serologically active polysaccharide and phosphoglycolipid which they contain. This does not modify the biologic activity of such tuberculins as measured by skin responses in tuberculin-hypersensitive guinea pigs; but it does modify the characteristics of the skin response in some human beings, especially nontuberculous, tuberculin reactors.
