Abstract
Summary
The blood sugar and serum insulin response to glucagon was evaluated in 8 patients with chronic renal disease and 6 control subjects. When compared to the controls, the patients demonstrated a normal blood sugar rise together with an exaggerated response of serum insulin. These observations indicate that hepatic glycogen stores are adequate and that impaired insulin secretion is not a major factor in the pathogenesis of the glucose intolerance of chronic renal failure.
