Abstract
Summary
The hemoglobins synthesized in the spleen and bone marrow of mice protected by the transfusion of isogenic bone marrow from the lethal effect of whole-body irradiation have been studied under a variety of circumstances. Only adult hemoglobin synthesis was observed during the period of observation. The results are consistent with the evidence that the hemoglobins found in the fetal mouse are of extraembryonic origin and therefore are phylogenetically related to the human “Gower” hemoglobins and not hemoglobin F.
