Summary
Intravenous infusion of histamine phosphate in intact lightly anesthetized dogs produced a consistent increase in pressure in small pulmonary veins, slight reduction in stroke volume and decrease or lack of change in left atrial pressure. The rise in pulmonary venous pressure was due to an active increase in tone of these veins without change in their caliber, since the pulmonary blood volume did not change significantly.
