Abstract
Summary
Homocytotropic antibody was detected in 80-100% of the ovine sera observed early in the primary response after immunization with 6 mg of the alumprecipitated form of human γ-globulin. This form of antigen, particularly in low dosages, appeared to result in a selective potentiation of ovine homocytotropic antibody as compared to sheep immunized with antigen plus complete or incomplete Freund's adjuvant. The failure to observe any direct correlation between the detection of IgG1, IgG2, and IgA, and IgM by radioimmunoelectrophoresis and the occurrence of homocytotropic antibody activity suggested that another or fifth class of ovine antibody was responsible for this functional property.
