Summary
The administration of phenobarbital to rats (80 mg/kg/day for 5 days) was associated with an increased incorporation of acetate into cholesterol by liver and small intestine in vitro. The stimulating effect of phenobarbital on intestinal cholesterogenesis has not previously been reported. Its overall effect on systemic cholesterol metabolism remains to be determined.
