Abstract
Summary
Tissue lesions consisting of erythema and induration of the skin, hemorrhagic necrosis of the liver, and corneal opacity were produced by UV-irradiated herpes simplex virus. These toxic effects were completely neutralized by herpes antiserum. Other biologic effects of the herpes virus, namely, fatal tonic convulsions and the formation of multinucleate giant cells in the liver, were destroyed by the UV irradiation of the virus.
