Abstract
Summary
Visna virus grown in sheep choroid plexus cells was concentrated by centrifugation and purified by isopynic gradient centrifugation in cesium chloride. Peak infective virus came to equilibrium at a buoyant density of 1.18–1.20 g/ml. 3H–uridine and 32P-orthophosphate added during infection were recovered in density-gradient fractions containing maximal amounts of infective virus. 3H–thymidine added to infected cells was not detected in fractions containing infective virus. The results indicate that visna virus contains RNA.
