Abstract
Summary
Pargyline and amphetamine lowered the resting levels of corticoids in the adrenals and plasma, and reduced acute stress induced rise in plasma and adrenal corticosterone. Pretreatment of rats with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (pargyline) blocked the depletion of the corticotropin-releasing factor in the median eminence and the hypersecretion of ACTH induced by reserpine. It is proposed that monoamines (probably catecholamines) are important neurotransmitters inhibiting the release of CRF from the nerve terminals in the median eminence of the hypothalamus.
