Abstract
Summary
Elevation of sympathetic tonus by injecting various catecholamines blocks coitus-induced ovulation in rabbits. Epinephrine, isoproterenol, and serotonin block ovulation when given at various times after mating. A dose of epinephrine (300 μg/kg) which is well tolerated by rabbits at other times was lethal to 100% of does when administered 5 min after mating. Norepinephrine and amphetamine do not prevent ovulation when given at 0-1 min postcoitum.
